Shiatsu in Penarth, South Wales
Shiatsu is a Japanese hands-on bodywork practice that uses pressure, gentle stretches and other techniques to support relaxation and body awareness.
Unlike conventional massage, Shiatsu pressure is applied using the practitioner's body weight rather than physical strength. The pressure and techniques are adapted to the individual and the needs of each session.
Shiatsu works with the body's physical structures while also drawing on the traditional Japanese understanding of ki (life energy) and meridians. Through considered pressure and touch, it aims to address areas of physical tension and patterns traditionally understood as energetic stagnation or imbalance.
The intention is to support the body's own capacity to regulate itself and encourage a greater sense of physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Sessions offer an opportunity to explore how you feel physically and what might help you feel more comfortable and aware.
Your needs, preferences and circumstances guide the session. We discuss what's appropriate for you before treatment begins.
Adam Bridges · Shiatsu practitioner
I see each person as an individual, not a list of symptoms. My approach is informed by Shiatsu and a wider interest in movement, anatomy, yoga and meditation. These perspectives help shape how I listen, how I work, and how I adapt a session to the person in front of me.
People come to Shiatsu for many reasons. Whether you’re experiencing everyday stress, carrying physical tension, wanting to maintain ease of movement, navigating changes in life or simply curious about a different approach to wellbeing, each session is shaped around you as an individual.
We start with a conversation and observations about how you’re feeling and moving, alongside your needs and health history, to help shape an appropriate session.
You don't need to know anything about Shiatsu before you arrive. We'll talk first about what brings you in, your health and any relevant concerns, and what you feel comfortable with.
Shiatsu is traditionally practised on a futon, with comfortable, loose-fitting clothing on. The session and positioning can be adapted where appropriate, including alternative positions or chair-based work.
A session lasts around 60 minutes in total, including the conversation, treatment and time to settle afterwards. Your first appointment may need a little extra time for a fuller initial consultation.
This is a complementary bodywork practice, not medical diagnosis. Shiatsu does not replace assessment or treatment by an appropriate healthcare professional. Please mention relevant health conditions, injuries or concerns when enquiring so we can consider whether treatment is suitable.
